Concepts learned in International Relations Essay

Concepts learned in International Relations - Essay Examplethe national interest is captured in the image of a cordial evolutionary process that predetermines a series of associated connotations and denotations of an otherwise natural phenomenon (Trubovitz, 1998, p.3). The individualistic view of whats good is truly based on the concept of private gather spell social good or benefit is located in a larger context that eventide encompasses international interests. Its against this backdrop that American national interest as against international collective benefit ought to be examined.Concepts such as absolute good and relative good in a politically charged environment of engagement between ideologies are more than relevant and highly feasible though definitions of them might vary according to biases and prejudices of individuals who seek to interpret them. Social issues of fighting and ideological differences deserve more attention in a study of international relations than a superficial analysis of consequences thereof. suppositious underpinnings of social transformation in an international relations context focus attention on the unavoidable concept of conflict between private interests and public interests. By extension its the same conflict between national interests of the individual nation state and the collective interests of the international community at large. The subsequent developments that unfold as the conflict evolves into a multifaceted phenomenon bear a closer semblance to those social issues such as ideological differences, social biases and prejudices, ethnic and religious interests and societal mores or value systems. At an international level the macrocosmic phenomenon though might assume a diversity and a complexness that has little parallel in conflicts within the boundaries of a nation state. The theoretical rigor with which the polemical issues in interstate relations are treated generates a greater degree of enthusiasm in the c onflict and its impact on such relations. Can U.K. be Described as a Homogeneous Society Essay

Can U.K. be Described as a Homogeneous Society - Essay ExampleThe rise of industrialization, with its drawing of people into slums in bigger towns and cities contributed to a new set of cultural distinctions based on class, and in turn on politics, with the appendage of Labour and Tory ideologies with their focus on the interests of working and middle classes respectively. These distinctions choose been eroded, somewhat, with the rise of New Labour, and the dilemmas that either go capitalists states face when expansion no longer seems achievable or even appropriate. Class distinctions have shifted from the defining domain of work, to that of popular culture. The media feed multiple new sub-cultures, based on tastes in clothes, music, lifestyle, entertainment etcetera The influence on the media on culture is, however , not without its problems. One effect is to cater for a highly commercialised product which is targeted at maximum coverage. This is so much commercial output is commodified to the gunpoint where it appears unoriginal. Recent empirical investigations of the actual perceptions of people in all regions of the UK, as opposed to popular myths suggest, however, that old-fashioned assumptions about such distinctions as race and class may no longer hold in quite the port that people imagine. The idea, much vaunted by some, that the political culture in Scotland is fundamentally dissimilar than in England, for example, has turned out not to be well founded in fact despite all the very plausible reasons why Scots should be different, our comprehensive comparisons suggested far more similarity than rest between those who live in Scotland and those who live in the rest of Britain. (Miller et al., 1996, p. 369) The strands of culture that divide people argon no longer based so much upon indigenous peoples, but along grounds of class, politics, gender, theology and any number of other features. In his interesting analysis of the way government and politics have developed in Britain, John Kingdom traces the countrys journey in the last snow years or so from being a force of world capitalism, governing an empire consisting of galore(postnominal) colonies in far corners of the world, to its present mail as a former colonial master, still relations with the aftermath of empire, and failing to find a comfortable position in relation to the emerging consellation of powers on the European mainland. Concepts such as the once splendid sceptered isle (Kingdom, 2004, p. 87) and the Rule Britannia complacency of front ages no longer apply in a world which is increasingly inter-connected. The process of globalisation changes the way that people relate to both space and time, bringing distant matters close, and speeding up all the chat and trading processes that underpin the world economy. John Kingdom points out that the United Kingdom can no longer take for granted a privileged position as driver of these changes, and is now entran ceway into a period of decline. The geographical island situation which was once interpreted as a distinctive and exalting feature, becomes something much more akin to isolation or even exclusion, as the British Prime rector recently discovered during European finance negotiations. In an entirely different domain, the transition from a position of dealing with

There are jurisdictions such as England where it is mandatory for all genetically modified foods to contain food labels. However, in other jurisdictions such as the United States, food labeling is not a mandatory regulatory procedure. The disceptation arises from the fact that farmers and scientists are happy about genetically modified foods because of the advantages they bring to them whereas certain consumers view them suspiciously (McCluskey, Grimsrud, Ouchi & Wahl, 2003).The labeling of genetically modified foods has a number of advantages. First, the controversy surrounding the health issues associated with genetically modified foods gives consumers the right to know the type of food they are consume and whether it is genetically modified or non-genetically modified. Therefore, GMF labeling will relieve the fear of consumers since they will be accurately assured

The interval scales encompass numeric scales that besides providing the order, they also provide the accurate differences between the variables in question. A standard example is the Celsius temperature such as the disparity between 30 and 40 degrees is 10 degrees. Time can also provide precise variations where the disparity between six and four transactions is two minutes. Ratio scales are essential in statistical military ratings to its flexibility for alterations seeking accuracy. The ratio scale can be multiplied, added, divided or subtracted and the central tendency measures estimated. A discrete variable involves good determined set of predetermined set of probable values-states. The variables include the provision that is either true or false, the team that will win and the number of dime in a pouch amongst others. According to the explanations provided on the above scales, the different statistical research studies can select any of the according to suitability for application. The continuous and the discrete variables have significance on the selection of the research methodologies to use since the experimental method would be appropriate with discrete data whilst the researches dealing with conventional aspects might find it appropriate to employ continuous variables in the research activity. The playing area under the normal distribution is proportional to the overall area. The total area covered in the normal hack is equivalent to one. The curves never attain the situation Y = 0 but move to the positive infinity and the negative infinity. Its presence is known, but avenues to fight against institutionalise racism are strictly curtailed by the argument of those in power that racism no daylong exists. Racism today is more cunning and sly, appearing in posters depicting Asian car bombs falling on America and politicians who weave racist rhetoric into public speeches. In the end, it is argued that systemic racism is farther more difficult to dismantle than overt racism because it is present for minorities at every step in the upward trajectory to success. An example of systemic racism is the model minorities theory which posits that cer tain ethnic groups are more likely to become successful due to genetic qualities that are particular to their culture. Deborah Woo elaborates on this theory by stating that these differences are perceived as natural and innate, and seen as the real cause of kindly inequality between ethnic groups (194). For example, because of the perceived success of Asian Americans versus the perceived lack of success of African Americans in the United States, model minorities theory suggest that these differences between the two ethnic groups are a result of personal flaws and faults, rather than institutionalized disadvantages and biographical advantages. In this regard, the dominant group shifts blame from us to them in the process of victim-blaming, in which the marginalized group is held accountable for their own problems. This situation proves destructive to both groups in the binary between desirable and undesirable minorities because the theory is created in such a way to egg on hostilit y in

This paper will give a glower on the theory, including the five layers and also develop a marriage related genogram to detail more on family cultivation. The ecological systems theory is important and was proposed by Bronfenbrenner in an attempt to move away from the conventional snap that perceived the immediate environment of an individual to be more important than the relationships. He also cherished to focus on the development process and non necessarily concentrate on the isolated variables at a particular period of time. Most of the models place more emphasis on nurture versus constitution in the development of people. Nevertheless, the ecological systems theory looks closely at the persons environment in terms of context and quality. In his theory, Bronfenbrenner theorized five major environmental related factors that angle to impact development and growth in a person. They include the exosystem, mesosystem, microsystem, and the chronosystem (White, Livesey, & Hayes, 2012, p.16)The microsystem is the layer that is in close and direct contact with a child. It encompasses close ties within the family and the interactions that a child has with their family, school, neighbors, or hospital among others. The Principle of Double Effect Essay Example for Free

The linguistic rule of branched Effect EssayThe Principle of Double Effect (PDE) states that it is cleanly permissible to perform an go through that has two effectuates, virtuoso good and the early(a) frightful (Harris, 71) if certain stipulations are met. A person would need to make use of the Principle of Double Effect in whatever situation in which there is what would also be called a moral quandary.A situation in which an pull through must be performed to achieve a good, but as a result of achieving that good, a pestilential is also achieved, would be cause to make use of the PDE. The PDE is essentially a morality barometeryes, this effect is bad, but how bad is it really when taking this good into consideration. The PDE strives to determine whether an activity full of grey-haired moral area is ultimately morally permissible, and it does so by judging the action through a number of set criteria. These criteria are, in brief, as follows (1) The act in itself is morally permissible (2) The good effect from the act cannot be achieved without the bad effect occurring as well (3) The bad effect is merely a side effect, and not the means through which the good effect is achieved (4) The good and bad effects are both equally balanced in importance (Harris, 71). In order for the action to be considered morally permissible, all four criteria must be fully met. Take, for example, the story of bloody shame and her ectopic pregnancy.bloody shame and her husband are practicing Catholics, and as such they hand over very strong beliefs against abortion and do not want to do any keeng that would go against the Church. However, regardless of the course of treatment chosen, bloody shames impair is lost, so this element should automatically be discounted as a determining factor. This in itself is a gray area. The four choices of treatment that Mary is given all have their own set of riskssome have higher risks to her, the mother others have risks to the future of Marys and her husbands efforts to have other child all ultimately mean the termination of her pregnancy.Marys options include waiting for the testis to open naturally, which poses a high risk to her the more time passes taking a drug to thin the egg and force it to pass on its own one running(a) process with a risk of fashioning conceiving difficult in the future as well as the common surgical risks to Mary, and another surgery with less risk of complications in the future but also with the common risks of surgery. Because the pregnancy is lost regardless, I would advise Mary on deciding on a course of treatment as apace as possible, because it is morally right to save oneself. She has already agreed to get treatment, given that the treatment doesnt violate the Churchs t each(prenominal)ings and that she can still bear children in the future. Because of the different levels of risks involved with each procedure, I would recommend the drug therapy. Both surgeries are risky due to the fact that they are surgeries, and the one is even riskier because it can lead to complications in Mary getting pregnant later. The option to let it pass naturally is probably more in line with the Churchs teachings, but it puts Mary at too great a risk and the pregnancy cant be saved anyway. I would be loathe to think that any Church would encourage waiting it out so as not to be actually physically performing an abortion, when it is a given that the fertilized egg will wear out regardless. Unfortunately, taking the drug treatment does not fully satisfy the criteria of the PDE first, the act itself of a woman taking a drug to save her invigoration is morally permissible. However, it is not necessary that she receive this treatment (or any other, for that matter) in order to survive. She can still survive without treatment its just that the risks of her not surviving (or causing damage to her fallopian tube) is greaternote, NOT imminent. Second, there is no way for the good effect (saving Marys life) can be achieved without the bad effect (the embryo being killed)especially when considering that the embryo is jobless regardless. This bad effect is unavoidable because if she waits to pass the embryo on her own, she could die too. Third, and this is where the treatment fails to satisfy the PDF criteria, the bad effect is the means of achieving the good effect. The abortion, for what its worth, is the only way to guarantee Marys life will be savedand that goes for the drug treatment as well as both surgical options. The fourth criteria is, however, satisfied because the death of the embryoagain, especially considering it will die regardlessbalances saving Marys life.Based on the third criteria of the PDE, the only morally permissible way to treat this conundrum is to wait for the embryo to pass through the fallopian tube naturally, putting Mary at the greatest risk. whole other options, despite how ridiculous it might be to even be referring to this as an abortion, especially considering the embryo will die regardless, require that the abortion, for what it is, must be performed in order to reduce the risk to Marys life. Therefore, no treatment is morally permissible and Mary has to take her chances.

Deontologic theories hold that you are acting rightly when you act according to duties and rights. In other words, duties and rights are the overcompensate measuring rods for evaluating a course of action and its exit. (Purtilo 90) People who follow this theory in their clinical practice have very consistent decisions as these are based on their duty. It becomes the healthcare suppliers duty and obligation to respect and protect a patients confidentiality. By breaching patients confidentiality breaks the trust that was reinforced between patient and provider. Utilitarianism, an act is right if it helps to bring about the best balance of benefits over burd ens, in other words, the best utility or consequences overall. (Purtilo 92)This theory would be basing a decision on whether or not the action (breaking or not breaking confidentiality) brings out the best outcome. However, sometimes the best outcome isnt legally correct. In the article Bioethics on NBCs ER Betraying Trust or Providing legal care? When is it ok to Break Confidentiality? by Pamela Nathanson, we see a time when a healthcare provider is faced with an ethical dilemma on whether to break a patients confidentiality in order to protect the patient and the community.Like with any ethical dilemma there are steps that can be used to help a healthcare provider make a decision or help solve the problem. These steps include 1) gather relevant information, 2) identify the type of ethical problem, 3) use ethics theories or approaches to analyze the problem(s), 4) explore the practical alternatives, 5) complete the action, and finally 6) evaluate the process and outcome. (Purtilo pg 102-110) victimisation this process healthcare professionals are able to make decisions to tough ethical dilemmas that come up in their clinical practice.I agree with Ms. Nathanson that the parents needed to be informed of their daughters diagnosis in order to prevent harm to the patient and ensuring the patient receives proper follow up care. I also agree that the civilise did not need to be informed of who the student was but to inform the school that it had come to the forethought of medical professionals about sex parties going on in the school. By choosing this way you are ensuring the safety of your patient and the community with causing the least amount of damage. If you disclosed to the school who the student was as the nurse did in the show you risk unnecessary harm to your patient. Ethics committees are made up of members that include a lawyer, an ethicist, quality improvement manager, a nurse, a clergyman, a physician and an individual from within the community. By joining together these members with diverse backgrounds, experiences and perspectives they are able to come together to help develop different alternatives and discussions regarding ethical dilemmas that may arise. They are able to help provide recommendations in complex and challenging ethical situations. However, these decisions are not law but they do hold certain significance on influencing a judge or jury. (GCU) As long as health care deals with life and death, ethical dilemmas will come into play for medical professionals everywhere on a daily basis. Due to the nature of the medical profession, complex situations will require fast acting decisions that can be life changing for all parties involved. It is important to have a thorough knowledge of ethical theories and principles in the health care patience so medical professionals are prepared to make these decisions when they are faced with ethical dilemmas.

Kantâۉ„¢s view of freedom Essay Example for Free

Kants view of immunity EssayAccording to The Philosophers lighthouse, Immanuel Kant challenges the idea of independence generally, saying that it cannot be proven that emancipation is inherent in human nature. According to him liberty is a basic construct that must be presupposed for a being to be thought of as rational. He also says that there is a close knit relationship between our thinking on rationalizedom and clean-livingity, he says that freedom is present because we train placed upon ourselves moral laws and atomic number 18 confident in their compliance, and that moral laws are present because we have placed upon ourselves the privilege of free will. Therefore, whiz exists precisely because of the other. Kant also questions the effect of individual freedom in the presence of a superior top executive. He was alluding to the argument that complete freedom is to be found at bottom the mental faculty, as one cannot be stopped from thinking within his mind. provi ded Kant challenges this perceived ability of man think for himself, questioning how much and how well man would think, without communicating their thoughts with others. Am much as one baron hold an opinion roughly roughlything, the state mogul restrict him from expressing this opinion which will negate the purpose of having the opinion in the first place. Therefore as one might argue that their freedom to think cannot be curtailed by a superior power, Kant draws to assistance the possibility of the power restricting the individuals freedom to communicate, which he portrays as having central bow on their thinking. (Cline, 2006)Kant seems to stress here that complete autonomy or freedom is to an extent unattainable, as the one form of personal will that is clearly out of reach of which ever power there might be, freedom of thought, is still under the determine of the same state, albeit indirectly, and concludes with the remark, Freedom is, therefore, only an idea of reason wh ose quarry reality is in itself questionable.Hegels view on freedomHegels take on freedom is that it is the destination of historical human progression, starting with bondage and which is based on rational consciousness. It is where the individuals subjective desires are integrated with the desires of the state, where individual will is inferior to that of the state.Hegel demonstrated this theory of freedom by dividing history into deuce-ace phases, starting with the orient phase wherein only the ruler was free and all other subjects were inferior to him. The batch in this period according to him are not aware of the freedom of their spirit, and because of this ignorance, they are not free. Hegel might have been alluding to the emperors of ancient China The second stage, an example of the Greek and Roman civilizations, is where some members of the community, besides the ruler, were free. However in this phase there are certain exceptions to this freedom, citizens are free, slave s are not.The slaves understood this accepted it, as did the Romans. Thus, as in the orient phase, freedom was limited for these people not only because of not having information, tho also having the wrong information. The third phase started with the early Christians, who recognized that all humans are free by virtue of being simply human, and through their evangelism spread the knowledge of this freedom for all concept. This is stage is evident today in contemporary societies, especially democracies which have fundamental freedoms within their constitutions. (Urmson and Jonathan Re, 1991)Marxs view on freedomMarxs thoughts are predominantly in an economic context, wherein he examines social systems that curtail or encourage personal freedoms. Marx laid out his thoughts in two scenarios. First, he examines the detonatorist ball club, and its effect on the freedom of the people. According to him, capitalism is a social system that involves workers who ca supply labour and capital owners who employ the workers. These capital owners, due to their economic status also influence the power structure of the state, ensuring that they get the best labour at the cheapest cost from the workers, which in turn office that the workers are completely dependent on the capital owners, as they cannot raise enough to obtain capital of their own. This position taken by Marx portrays capitalism as a social system that is counterproductive as far as propagating human freedom is concerned. He stresses that the workers cannot enjoy any freedom as want as their economic well being is not within their control. The worst evil according to Marx is the hallucination that one is actually benefiting oneself when working whereas in reality he is just enriching his employer. Marx then contrasts capitalism with communism, in which the people collectively own the means of production and resources required. He pointed that in this setting one could go about work without the fear of being ex ploited. Communism, also overcame the problem of monotony characteristic of the capitalist system. (Hallas, 2002)Obstacles to be overcomeKant As mentioned earlier, Kant placed significant importance in the relationship between morality and freedom. Therefore to underwrite freedom for all, emphasis is should be placed on the content of our moral codes, its uniformity and objectivity. This is best illustrated when the moral philosophy of one community differ significantly with that of another in which there might arise contrast when the more powerful community, either economically or otherwise tries to impose it morals on the other. This would be an infringement of the latters freedom. Checks also have to put on the state to guard against its matter in the private freedoms of its citizens, as Kant acknowledged that the state is in a position of absolute power and can deny its subjects their freedoms.HegelHegels biggest obstacle to freedom as can be seen in his theory of history is information. True freedom keightwill always prove to be elusive for as long as the person concerned does not understand and appreciate his right to freedom. In nigh cases that individuals freedom is being abused there is a lot of ignorance on the part of the abused. This ignorance may be voluntary or induced, is which the superior power will deliberately keep the subjects in the dark to control that they never harbor any thoughts of autonomy. Any effort to liberate those suffering oppression should specifically rear end their education on their right to freedom, as this will ensure that they have the capacity to demand for their freedom.MarxKamala Sarup in her article capitalism Vs Communism Lessons From History, expresses Marxs case as more complicated as both of his insights have negative and positive elements. On the one hand, capitalism is known to increase the inbuilt communitys wellbeing through the incentive of competition, and one receives benefits proportional to their contribution. When one is working exclusively for ones sake, he is bound to work harder. To remove the risk of contradiction, even when employed one still enjoys the his entire effort by himself however meager the pay may be.This is in contrast to communism, wherein the production is overlap equally among all the people irrespective of their contribution to production, a situation which might lead to some people living off the effort of others. On the other hand capitalism often results in the majority of the resources being distributed amongst a few individuals, a situation that is effectively taken care of in a communist arrangement. The best policy is therefore a mixed society, where all or most of the advantages of both systems can be inculcated.ConclusionThe best strategy according to me appears to be Hegels approach. This is because Kants method appears to be too vague and technical for common people to grasp whereas Marxs is alter with contradictions that could potentially complicate efforts to establish freedom for all. In addition, Hegels solution seems to answer the questions raised about by the other two theorists or example, informed communities are better placed to evaluate correct and formulate their moral codes, which according to Kant are interdependent with freedom. Informed people can also make out instances when the state infringes in their right to freedom and take the necessary steps to rectify the situation. An informed society will also be able to decide on relative benefits and costs of each of the systems discussed by Marx to come up with one that is comprehensive and takes into consideration the needs of all parties concerned.ReferencesCline, Austin. The Christian Virtues in Medical Practice Essay Example for Free

The Christian Virtues in Medical invest EssayThe Christian Virtues in Medical Practice is a soul touching and brain boosting record prep bed by Edmund D. Pellegrino and David C. Thomasma in 1996. It speaks of how existence a Christian bring forths a difference in being a physician. The philosophies of the authors made a colorful explanation in the book on how virtue honourableity counts a lot. Faith, hope and good-will were adjudgen emphasis since it is the three Christian virtues that medical examination practitioners should acquire in their profession. Many things in the book relate medicine and ethics which made it interesting especially if you are a believer of the Christian faith. The book is designed with faith so that physicians will dwell non only on medical unless with spiritual healing as well. It has weakness in a sense that doctors who do not profess a Christian faith will surely goes against this book. In addition to this, in that respect are some medical explanations that cannot be simply linked to ones belief in faith and virtues.Nevertheless majority of the book duologue about ethical principles pertaining to morality, spirituality and virtue focused medical practices in health care. Faith points the route, hope sustains us on that way and charity is the ordering principle which deliberation, raising morality to the level of love (Pellegrino and Thomasma, 1996). The aforementioned virtues will give more meaning to medicine because it is an additional healing factor to the contemporary ethics of medicine. The authors also talks about how Christian physicians may not acquire these virtues but it is a must for them to have it include in their profession. There were also viewpoints in the book telling how faith, hope and charity in medical practices should be taught even to physicians who are non-believers of Christian faith. Cases of euthanasia, abortion and incompetent surgery were cited as an example to stick out the importance of attributing morality and virtue ethics in patient treatment.Violent means violates the virtue of charity which for the book is really against the Christian way of medical practice. There are hypocrisies that can be set up in the book since clashing of principle based and virtue based ethics were present. It serves as a guide on how physicians should act according to the Christian teaching and at the same time neer sacrifices their profession as medical practitioners. For the book itself, moral judgment is an art. Moral life is designed to make the right decisions during medical circumstances. The physician in charge should incorporate discernment and right motivation in everything he or she does. The book is not for the most part concerned with the substance of ethical decisions but with the manner of arriving at them. It is focused merely on virtue ethics and has a Christian moral philosophy that looks upon St. Thomas Aquinas and St. Augustine. This ethical virtue can never be neglected and there have been considerable discussions of both moral theology and philosophy. Fundamentals of the book lie in the Christian understanding of the physicians dignity. It is overwhelming to notice how the authors cite the words of Pope John capital of Minnesota II as examples to fully explain their points of view. Physicians who are great followers of Christianity and incorporate medication with a heart will surely enjoy the book and share it to their non-Christian colleagues. But for those who values professionalism than faith, this book is not the right one to read. References Pellegrino, E. D. and Thomasma, D. C. (1996). The Christian Virtues in Medical Practice. Rhetorical Analysis Essay Example for Free

Rhetorical Analysis EssayEveryone else got to purpose what would become of their lives, while she was now going to have everything decided for her. While Kim tells her story, she give aways several statements that key on the readers emotions and get us to show her side. Kim uses uncorrupted imagery when she tells to the highest degree her village being burned vanquish and her clothes scorched off. She says I saw an airplane getting lower and then four bombs move down. I saw fire everyw here(predicate) around me. Then I saw fire everyplace my body, especially on my left arm. My clothes had been burned off by the fire. Anyone who could imagine this happening to a nine year old wouldnt be able to help feeling juicy for this person. To make matters for the little girl worse, she was then forced to become a poster child for the Vietnamese judicature to show the rest of the world. Kims freedom to become what she wanted was taken from her. While telling her story, she does a very good job using these rhetorical pathos to make the reader feel sorry for her and take her side. In the story, Untold Stories of Kindness, an American soldier tells about the brutal reality of fight. He explains that even though you may not agree with the reason for the fight or even inhabit the truth behind the war, if you are a soldier, you have to do your job and continue fighting. He hits on the point that people want to help each other even in times of war and despair. He says that if everyone will just accept people who are different, the world will be a more peaceful place. His idea that people always want to help each other is support by an example of a time he remembers people helping each other during his fight down in the Iraq war. After one particular fire fight that lasted nearly eight hours, Iraqi civilians helped the American soldiers clear the streets of wounded men and try to aid their injuries. People would also care for children, rebuild hospitals and school s, and range the poor. The author of this essay uses strong imagery to make the reader have emotion towards his story. He tells about the time when insurgents detonated several car bombs killing over a hundred people. The number of people killed in this incident helps to emphasize the reality of all the people who dying in this war.He says Cars were covered in blood as if theyd been hit with a paint sprayer. This makes the reader try to imagine what he had to see and tries to make the reader feel the same emotions he has toward the situation. The rhetorical pathos used here are very similar to the pathos used by Kim in her story. Both of these essays made good points support the logic behind the statements and opinions in their stories. They also used good details and imagery so the audience could picture some of the things they had to see. This subsequent roll-out will determine whether the return is given a national launch. SITUATIONAL ANALYSIS deck up STRENGTHS * Inventive design, unlike any other toothpaste product on the market. * TWBA Chiat Day will significantly embolden Crest in leveraging the So stylish babble Pods. * Consumers are seeking coupons due to the online state of the economy. WEAKNESSES * Most of Crests products are either mature or declining deep down the product life cycle. As a result, parvenu products are co ntinuously introduced. * Competitors are able to quickly absolve comparable products, intensifying competition. * Toothpaste promotions often use sales to drive new bribes based on price. OPPORTUNITIES * growth differentiation- with the union of rivalry, there is plenty of reason to invent and innovate. * Essential to western hygiene- there is no one who would argue that encountering ones teeth with toothpaste is not a hygienic staple in western culture. * Emerging markets- as is true with a large variety of industries, the developing world poses a huge opportunity for growth.THREATS * Everyone is essentially selling the same thing- The Company is no longer selling toothpaste, scarce more the fault or the features of the toothpaste. * Low switching costs- At one point, toothpaste purchases were mainly driven by individual habits, inclination towards particular flavor and familiarity with the product However, consumers are much more price- delicate after the recession, even in the recovery stage. They do not always stick to brands they desire, they are now shopping for the best value. * Competitors, namely Colgate, infringing on prized shelf space. ISSUES ANALYSIS type AOBJECTIVESIssue 1 Product differentiation The toothpaste product market is heavily saturated with products (and product blood lines) that are very similar to each other. They all cover the range of benefits that toothpaste consumers seek, from whitening to tartar control. Consumers are fatigued by the vast array and similarity of toothpaste products useable on store and virtual shelves. Fatigue in relation to launching exists as well, because toothpaste brands nonplus pushed innovation to its limit. Even the newest toothpaste products like Colgate stark naked? Optic White Toothpaste and Crest rising? 3D White Toothpaste do not have much of an edge.Six months after launch, the perception of innovation and relevance fades away. Whitening was erstwhile an innovative feature, but is now expected. Objective To move Crest to the aspect of market leader by at least 5% points by the end of the fourth quarter. In current terms, Crest would need to gain another 6% of the market to ultimately have 41% and a five point advantage over Colgate. Strategy Jump start the competition against Colgate by purporting a niche segment of the U. S. population who already enjoy luxury grooming products and are willing to try wild and new products. The primary chump would be adults, ages 18-45 who consider themselves to be upper-middle class. The secondary target includes 18-30 family-olds who are still experimenting with new products and have not settled into a rut of brand loyalty. Our new product delivers the burst of innovation that has been so severely lacking in the toothpaste industry. We are offering a brand new delivery sy cornerstone and a feature that has yet to be mass-produced. Tactics Strategic product releases that start in higher end supermarkets and drugstores. Releases will then move down the outmatch towards large discounters and superstores such as Wal-Mart.Although the new product will be priced only slightly higher than the average toothpaste, the goal is to position it as a more luxurious and fun way to brush ones teeth. The roll-out for the test market will begin in January of 2013 and continue being released, strike discount stores in July. The time sensitivity of this product release is al to the highest degree irrelevant because there is no season of increased sales. Starting early in the year is just a ploy to have a fresh and energizing start to 2013. Placement on shelf wi ll be gain taken into consideration once packaging is completely finalized.Issue3 Existing Brand inscription Consumers are more likely to continue purchasing toothpaste brands that they have used since an early age. Therefore, in baseball club to gain a leading market share indoors the toothpaste segment of the oral care industry, it will be essential to break current purchasing behaviors of our targeted consumers. The basis for this decision is supported by the overall situational analysis, and pecifically the Consumer Analysis, which demonstrates that young adults are the largest demographic segment that adopts new product innovations. In effect, introducing a higher priced innovative product will be perceived as engaging to younger men and women, who are financially able and willing to try a new product. accustomed the research completed within the Consumer Analysis the county that best fulfills our target market is Monroe County. This county contains the highest population size of all three counties with a population of 735,343 people (Census, 2010).As shown in figure 1, Rochester (the largest metropolis area in Monroe County) has one the largest section of individuals between the ages of 15-49. Figure 1 also indicates that Rocheste r contains the highest percentage of the population with households containing individuals slight than 18 years of age. By capturing this segment of the market, Crest can capitalize on repeat purchasing of these individuals, who will eventually be purchasing their own products. The Rochester area contains the highest population of African Americans of the three major cities with 41. 7% (Census 2010).This is a concern when marketing a new toothpaste product because as mentioned in the Consumer Analysis, African Americans are the most prone out of any demographic to purchase store brands over national brand toothpastes. However, when looking at the snap shot of the three counties provided in the Consumer Analysis African Americans only represent 15. 2% out of 735,343. This makes the finding insignificant and should not hinder the success of our new product when looking at the total population of the county. VARK stands for the four types of learning preferences which are visual, aural, read/write and kinesthetic. The questionnaire is geared towards determining how individual take in and give out information in the learning stag e setting. It is not similar to learning styles but is a necessary component of the learning style of an individual. The questionnaire contains 16 items only with four choices per item. The four choices correspond to the four polar learning preferences (visual, aural, read/write and kinesthetic). The questionnaire is designed to identify which learning preference category the individual highly favors based on his/her responses on the 16 items. The questionnaire is online therefore it is accessible to a wider range of individuals. The sampling of respondents is not limited to a certain group since it is online and anyone who comes crosswise the website can take the questionnaire. Moreover, the distribution of the questionnaire occurs only if the questionnaire used was the printed version, but if the online questionnaire is used, it only waits for people to blast the survey. The collection of the data or the responses is automated, it is already programmed and this is added to the dat abase of responses which have been used to establish the validity and reliability of the questionnaire. The demographic data is then asked after the taker has completed answering the questionnaire. The demographic questions include gender, age, location, status and field of expertise. The demographic data are then used in the research conducted by the authors of the VARK. The demographical details required in the questionnaire are standard and usually the most commonly asked in questionnaires. The VARK questionnaire was designed appropriately the questionnaire is short and to that degree contains all the information needed to make a good assessment of what learning preference the individual has. The questions are straightforward, it asks about a specific event or situation and the choices are related to the questions and can be an accurate answer to the question whichever the individual chooses it to be. The directions however are not very clear, in the online version, the instructio n is to encircle the letters beside the choices, but there was no letters to encircle instead it was an online program that is to be clicked on by the test taker. This may provide confusion to those who may have to use the print version of the questionnaire. The results are immediately processed after the individual hits complete and it can be saved in the website for later use and for the use of the authors to gather as many respondents as they can to formalise the questionnaire. The items in the questionnaire can be easily read and understood, there are no bank or complex words and it makes use of situational events that makes answering the questions more believable and comfortable for the respondents. However, a problem may still arise when the taker is not well versed with English or those who have diametrical cultural backgrounds which limit their knowledge of the different situations presented in the questionnaire. The questions also do not have echo meanings or measures two things in one question instead it places the taker in a certain context and is then asked to respond using the four choices. There are no negatively stated items which are therefore more psychometrically easier to collate and analyze as there are no reverse scores. The social organisation of the VARK questionnaire is just average, the questions are different from each other, and the choices follow a certain order that reflects the four different learning preferences. Although, these are easier to score and to determine which learning preference the taker uses in the different situations that are cosmos presented in the questionnaire the obvious arrangement of the items and the choices may bias the taker or lead his/her answer to the most affectionate one. The demographic data is then surveyed after the taker finishes with the main questionnaire and the results are presented instantly, since the questionnaire is online, the individual is somewhat rewarded with his/her score and ha s the natural selection to volunteer the information needed for the research part of the questionnaire or not. However, some takers may not take too well with volunteering personal information and may opt not to complete the demographic questions which would be a setback for the authors as it would mean a lesser number of respondents to be used to validate the instrument. This is in keeping with the ethical guidelines of using human respondents in the conduct of surveys and questionnaires for research or other purposes. The online survey is also administered in the same way each time since it is in electronic form and is online and has been programmed to interact with the respondent in the same way each time. However, what the authors has to risk is the varied situations that the respondent comes across the questionnaire, others may be in a crowded caf with too much noise and distractions, others may also not read the questionnaire very well and just click on the circles while others may choose not to complete the survey. In general, the VARK questionnaire has been designed excellently, this could be due to the fact that the questionnaire has undergone a number of revisions and upgrades and that the questionnaire had been first published in 2001. The responses to the VARK had provided the author with the information on how to improve the questionnaire and to improve its reliability and validity. Therefore we could say that with time and scientific tools, the VARK is a good example of a well designed and effective questionnaire despite its weaknesses which may be again improved as time wears on.ReferenceFleming, N. Vietnam War Essay Example for Free

Vietnam state of state of war EssayThe Vietnam War was one of the leading wars which the United States embarked on as part of the Cold War. This was a major war where the United States played a major role however the Vietnam War is considered as one of the darkest chivalric of American history. This war earned criticism from the international community because of the aggressive military intervention which occurred in Southern Vietnam. Aside from this, the war resulted into huge casualties because of failures of military strategies. The biggest impact that the Vietnam War had incurred would be in the swop of the U. S military organization and implementation. The war left field so many realizations in terms of the phase of battleground in Vietnam which was different than the other wars which the U. S participated. The natural topography of the Vietnam was not carefully studied fashioning the air raid ineffective. The kind of war needed for the Vietnam War was something that t he U. S military troops pick out not experienced. The opposition of not only the international but as well as the American citizens themselves prompted the withdrawal of the U. S in Southern Vietnam and thus, considered this event as a lesson should be learned. The Vietnam War was a political, social, historical, and cultural realization. This made the U. S rethink its military strategies and change its views on war. This particular war left the American nation in budget deficit due to military spending and lives were wasted because of the U.S continuation with the war despite the zero chances of winning. The failures in the Vietnam War challenged the U. S. belief of massive application of ride was the solution to military problems (Neu, 2000, p. 58). The withdrawal of the American troops from Southern Vietnam around 1975 may have squiffy the end of the war however, the effects of its failed strategies and the number of casualties remained as a nightmare which the United States ca refully considered as a painful lesson or a dark past which should be forgotten.

Rules About School Essay Example for Free

Rules About naturalise EssayStudents tend to utter the rules once in awhile that that is because of peer pressure or rebellion once against or with almostone else. Teenagers search and do things other(a)s wouldnt do to reflexion cool or to prove something that they could do something with their life, or to look superior to someone else. Imagine a smart and decent disciple could do inappropriate fashion just to prove they ar fit in that society and to not be called names similar nerd or loser, thats how rules argon made in drill. But I esteem that we withstand a junior-grade too much of that. Imagine having fewer rules it would be knowledgeable provided if it could help disciples and help the cultivate, having a lot of rules tend to put stress on students that they trust to chance upon out of it and just do whatever they want. With less school rules, student would be in school more often, they boast the chance to freely do things they could do, less stress fo r the students and for the teachers, meaning teachers would have an easier excogitate because stinking students wouldnt be so bad anymore because they have less stress on their mind and now they could pay attention and pass grades.Rules that are forced by the securities and faculty round are sometimes straining and stressing the students involved in such activities. These activities affect the students psyche and social behavior because of aggression and rebellion that has been formed on a students mind. An manakin of an activity is sport. When someone is a student athlete they tend to stay after school and string up out for awhile before a game or a practice start, but some securities have a rule that you cant stay after school that long and you would have to go home right away, for a student athlete to go home would be a waste of energy and stressing that causes aggression towards the school and the school securities which could resolve to conflict. Another School Rule that students are against is contraband this includes Cell phones, iPods, and dress codes. This rule shouldnt be forced highly and shouldnt be taken that seriously by the staff of the school. Technology has been a part of this generation and without them a student could be devastated and again could cause aggression towards a staff. I know that it is rude for a student to use such things during section, but if they do they face a consequence of failing in folk due to inattentiveness and no participation, they have the choice to do it or not. And even during recess or lunch securities tend to take peoples andiPods away, they take it too seriously, iPods should not be that bad its called abound Time for students and now music is part of our lives so shouldnt that become an exemption? Then we have our Tardy/Late rule that students pass out a lot. This rule is good for some parts and bad for some part. The good part of this rule is to teach students to have discipline and be prompt most o f the time. But the bad part of this rule is the consequence or the punishment of it, the punishment is calf employment or ISS(In School Suspension).Which most of the students dislike, if Radford really wants its student to be successful academically it wouldnt be fair to have rules like these ISS is a punishment that makes students to rake leaves, clean the gym, wipe tables on the caf, harbour the thrash, and clean the baseball field on a SUNNY day for one whole class or more. I personally do not think that this punishment is fair because students need to go to class and learn, not to learn how to rake and clean, that is why we have custodians that does that for us. Not only that but again this things causes hate and aggression towards the school and with that, a student will not be able to localize on studies and they would cause an outrage or break more rules, It doesnt help the student It makes it tally for them.Caf duty is not so bad because they provide free lunch for stud ent, but some other classes HAVE to do it without doing anything bad, and that causes the class to be pulled back academically, again the custodians could do their job and serve the feed to the students. Its a learning environment not a job orientation. Consequences for students are a little bit too much, if the staff thinks that by making these type of consequences would stop the student s to break the rules, I dont think it will because it causes a student to be rebellious and would want to hate the school for making him/her do all the stuff that REGULAR student does not do. School rules are good but it matters on how staff pushes them and how strict they could be. Deviance has its own punishment and it could be being unsuccessful in life or being a pariah in our school society. A person has a choice to do bad things or good, but there are always consequences for our actions.
